Are you considering to start a .308 rifle build, if so, we need to start with the .308 lower receiver.

The .308 rifle platform is not uniform in the same way the AR-15 platform is across manufacturers – an understanding of .308 rifle parts compatibility is key.

If you want to build out an awesome .308 rifle, one of the first choices you will need to make is what type of .308 lower you are going to use to start your .308 rifle build.

Your choices will fall into two broad categories, radius cut at the buffer tube or angular cut at the buffer tube:

There are many popular manufactures who produce a .308 rifle with a radius at the buffer tube: DPMS,  Aero Precision, PSA…etc.

Here is a photo of a radius at the buffer tube tower:

There are also many popular manufactures who produce a .308 rifle with an angular cut at the buffer tube: Armalite AR-10, LMT, KAC…etc.

Her is a photo of an angular cut at the buffer tube tower:

Many high end and proven .308 rifles can be completed regardless of what choice you make here…the military issue sniper system, commonly known as the M-110 is an Angular Cut at the buffer tube.

Generally, a less expensive build can be completed with the radius cut and a more expensive build with the angular cut – but of course this is not set in stone by any means.

So, that is the first choice in considering rifle parts for your .308 rifle build – Radius or Angular cut at the buffer tube.
