A More Perfect Divide

When Barack Hussein Obama was first elected to the office of The President of the United States, many thought that he would bring the country together. The first elected black president would surely prove that race is no longer an issue in this country, right?

His “A More Perfect Union” speech about race relations in 2008 while running for President seemed to show that he really wanted to fix things. He understood that welfare policies were hurting more than helping most Black Americans, and that blaming the middle class white people who work hard and struggle to survive in a time of stagnant wages and jobs being shipped overseas, was not the way to fix it.

If he seemed to have such a good grasp on what was going on, why does it seem that we have taken a huge step backwards over the last 7 years? We are more divided by race, by political party and income than ever before.

In His Own Words

“I do all kinds of soul searching in terms of, are there things that I can do better to make sure that we are unifying the country? But I also have to say, that one of my regrets is the degree to which polarization and the nasty tone of our politics has accelerated rather than waned over the course of the last seven and a half years. The tone of that politics, which I certainly have not contributed to.”

Not contributed to? This man has fanned the racial flames at every chance he has had. He has done it carefully, often trying to talk about a balance while showing the passion only when it really impacts the tension he is striving to inflame.

In a speech about the riots in Baltimore he said,

“We have seen too many instances of what appears to be police officers interacting with individuals, primarily African-American, often poor, in ways that raise troubling questions. This has been a slow-rolling crisis. This has been going on for a long time. This is not new, and we shouldn’t pretend that it’s new.”

Of course this just caused more distrust of the police and several police men were killed in the weeks following this speech. But, he will never say he contributed to that either.

His carefully crafted tears during an anti-gun speech (yes we saw you rub your eye to make that happen) was sure to get people to give up their guns even though the founding documents of this country specifically protect that right. At some point the Democrats became the anti-constitution party and the President has led the fight against guns, free speech, private property and our own immigration laws.

Never His Fault

“The Republican political elites and many of the information outlets, social media and news outlets, talk radio, television stations have been feeding the Republican base for the last seven years a notion that everything I do is to be opposed. “

Everyone’s fault but his, the “Blamer in Chief” really earns his nickname here and never seems to think that maybe the American people don’t all agree that his approach on every issue which is why he often deals with blowback on things that go against public will or a little something called the Constitution.

It wasn’t his fault that so many Americans lost their health insurance and their doctors when the Affordable Care Act took effect even though he had promised the opposite over and over.

Facts Never Matter

“As a consequence, if you’ve been watching television for the last month, all you’ve been seeing, all you’ve been hearing about is these guys with masks or black flags who are potentially coming to get you. ISIL is a direct outgrowth of al-Qaeda in Iraq that grew out of our invasion. Which is an example of unintended consequences. Which is why we should generally aim before we shoot.”

The growth of ISIS (I hate when they keep changing the name of these barbarians) had more to do with the way we pulled out of Iraq and the fact that Obama sent arms and money to them when they were fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Getting rid of Assad was more important than the fact that these people are the sworn enemies of freedom everywhere. However, that truth doesn’t allow Bush to be at fault, so the facts just don’t matter.

He has changed the way unemployment numbers are tallied to make it look like he has done great things and fixed our economy and yet 94 million Americans are out of work and have exhausted their long term unemployment benefits.

He has boasted of a manufacturing surge by saying that nearly 900,000 manufacturing jobs have been created in the past six years. But over his entire time in office, manufacturing jobs have gone down by 230,000 in total. Once again, facts just don’t matter.

The Horrible System of Government He Has Been Forced to Work In

“What’s frustrated people is that I have not been able to force Congress to implement every aspect of what I said in 2008. Well, you know, it turns out that our founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change than I would like sometimes.”

This country has survived for so long because of the checks and balances that our founders put in place to keep any person from becoming a tyrant, dictator or in some way replace the King they had just fought so hard to free themselves from. Obama doesn’t seem to appreciate that system.

He has tried to get around that with “Executive Actions”, but is limited in how much he can get away with through that method. Now to be fair, it isn’t that he has written more Executive Actions than others before him, because he hasn’t. It is the scope of his Executive Actions that is concerning as the often go well beyond the power that the Presidents pen is allowed by law.

Deflecting Blame

“As a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Now I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video.”

Rather than admit his and Sec. Clinton’s gun running scheme from Libya to Syria was the cause for the attack on our embassy that killed four Americans, they blamed a video and went out of their way to appease Muslims for the video, despite the violence that ensued.

The Divider in Chief

“I’m less interested in passing out blame than I am in learning from and correcting these mistakes to make us safer. For ultimately, the buck stops with me.”

And yet, all he has done is blame others. Blame the police, white privilege, guns, videos and of course Republicans. The man that was supposed to unite us has done the opposite, the country is more divided today than it was 50 years ago and that divide seems to be getting wider.

The country seems closer to a second civil war than any time since the first civil war in many respects and that is not something anyone wants to happen. But the divide, the abuses by our government, racial tensions, social and financial abuses all seem to be leading towards that battle that ends this country as we know it.

I’m not suggesting a firefight on the steps of the Capital Building is going to take place, in fact I doubt the US military would actually be involved in a second civil war as it would be small guerilla type clashes that lead to political pressure and a Third Continental Congress that acts as a type of reset for our government.

Such an action would be a drastic situation and yet many in the country wouldn’t even notice what happened as their lives would go on as normal. Thousands would die in those skirmishes though and martial law would be attempted and that is where the military would either sit out the action or choose a side. Let’s hope this is just my idea for a new work of fiction and not any type of premonition.

Something does need to change though, because this divide seems to be getting bigger every day.
